Before the railroad and the I&M canal were built, the best way between lockport and the village of Chicago was by stagecoach along the Colonel Archer trail. The route was known as "The Road to Widow Brown" as Widow Brown's house was near the last stop.
Lockport's original stagecoach building still stands just two doors North at 1020 South State.
